Mirrors

Custom Made Mirrors

We take the mirror for granted and yet most of us wouldn’t think of leaving the house without at least a quick glance in one to be sure.  We have them all over the house and they range in style – from the most flamboyant to the plainest Jane – and capacity – the full wall (or ceiling?) to the side of a knife – but most of the time, a mirror is a mirror.  Until it isn’t.

There are spots in the house where you not only need a mirror but it needs to say something more.  You need something individual, a stand out.  A mirror that says “you’ve made it, baby!”.

At Artefacts, you can find the mirror that works for you.  You can find it already made, ready to hang and sing your praises or you can find the elements of that mirror to be; that shapely window, that industrial mould, that gothic tracery from a rood screen.

We can take your ideas and make the mirror you want or you can find the parts yourself and put it together at home.  Isn’t that half the fun? The mirrors below are samples of the sort of thing you might find at Artefacts – drop in and explore.

Industrial Mirror

Possibly my favourite mirror over the past few years, this striking piece was made from the turret base of a threshing machine discharge tube.  Cast iron with wooden ball bearings and a crank shaft for original rotation.

Oh So Gothic

One of four bell tower vents removed from a church in Sebringville, this piece was shortened to 8′ from its original 11′ so it would fit in to the room.  Carved pine in distressed white paint.

Diamonds

An unusual mullion form with diamonds in a Queen Anne framing and more subtle than the intensity of some of the Quebec diamond patterns, this mirror was made from a window removed from a house in St Thomas.  Pine finished in a clear wax.

Pretty Little Things

These two mirrors are fabricated using salvaged trim and found elements.  Perfect for a powder room or that last chance look before you go out the door.  Painted and distressed.

A Grand Visage

When you really want to make a statement, this oversize mirror, made from Victorian porch posts, trim and base board, does the job.

The Upper Half

Some of the most dramatic doors we get are from the Queen Anne period. The window is often framed beautifully which makes for a stunning mirror.

Two For One

I put this mirror we made from salvaged trim and porch posts in front of an early entrance and they look so good together, I think the should sell as a grouping!  Up to you.
